About this Campaign

The Eat Local for the Holidays campaign was created to raise awareness about how buying local food offers nutrient-dense foods to our families, supports our environment by reducing the miles food travels, bolsters our local economy, and helps keep our local farmers farming. The holidays are a perfect time to add another dimension to how we think about food when we are already making thoughtful food purchases.

We are asking that you make a pledge to add just one local food to your holiday meal. Maybe it’s a squash that you purchase from the farmer’s market. Maybe you’ll use Missouri pecans for your pecan pie. Or maybe you’ll buy your milk from a local cooperative. Whatever you do, it will make a difference. We hope that there will be hundreds just like you, purchasing foods from local producers and making a huge impact on the local food scene right here in Greater Kansas City.

This campaign is modeled after the Eat Local for Thanksgiving campaign in Seattle, Washington. In Kansas City, the Eat Local for the Holidays campaign is sponsored by the Greater Kansas City Healthy Food Policy Coalition, with the support of KC Healthy Kids.
