HOP'N After School |
HOP'N After School is an after-school program directed by Dr. David Dzewaltowski to promote healthy opportunities for physical activity and nutrition in 4th graders. Dr. Dzewaltowski is Professor of Kinesiology and Director of the Community Health Institute (CHI) at Kansas State University. CHI, located in the College of Arts and Sciences at K-State, contributes to research in the areas of physical activity, healthful eating, and positive human development.
The HOP'N After-School Project began in the fall of 2005 and continues until the end of the school year in 2008. Four elementary schools in the Lawrence, Kansas, area are participating: Deerfield, Kennedy, Langston Hughes, and Woodlawn.
Elements of the after-school program include: daily healthy snacks, thirty minutes of daily moderate and vigorous physical activity for kids, weekly nutrition and physical activity education, and continuous staff training and feedback. For more information click here |
