Making Our Communities Healthier
To make our communities healthier, we have to look at solutions at all levels-in our neighborhoods, throughout the region and statewide. KC Healthy Kids' efforts to improve opportunities for and participation in healthy eating and active living in Greater Kansas City cross all of these levels.
KC Healthy Kids partners with other organizations that may or may not fully realize their impact on the epidemic of childhood obesity. That involvement may include working with city planners, architects, and business developers to advance built environment initiatives to make walking and biking more safe and convenient and parks more accessible. We also advocate for policies that improve access to healthy foods and that work may include local legislators and city administrators, store owners, farmers, and institutions serving food. And we work with local school administrators and teachers to create a healthier school environment for children.
At the neighborhood level, KC Healthy Kids supports efforts of community residents to advocate for improvements in their neighborhoods. We also facilitate and partner in regional and statewide coalitions that advocate for policies and programs that affect us locally, but are coordinated or mandated regionally or statewide. We work at all levels to make the healthy choice the easy choice for children and families in Greater Kansas City.
