Regional Initiatives

As a large metropolitan area encompassing many municipalities and counties and straddling the state line, it is imperative that we work together on regional efforts and common goals to improve healthy eating and active living opportunities for all of residents of Greater Kansas City.

Greater Kansas City Food Policy Coalition

The mission of the Greater Kansas City Food Policy Coalition is to advocate for a healthy food system and promote policies that positively impact the nutritional, economic, social and environmental health of Greater Kansas City. The coalition promotes cooperation among segments of the food system and the connection between local producers and local consumers.

The Greater Kansas City Food Policy Coalition is an alliance of individuals, organizations, businesses and government representatives representing all critical components of the local food system, including health care, agriculture, education, social services, food distribution, government, private business, nonprofit agencies and consumers. KC Healthy Kids is a member of the coalition's steering committee.

Building a Healthier Heartland

The mission of Building a Healthier Heartland is to prevent and reduce obesity by fostering healthy eating and active living opportunities. The coalition achieves its mission by collaboratively advancing policy, environmental, and system changes using sustainable, innovative, and replicable evidence-based efforts.

This public-private collaboration of public health and medical entities, nonprofit organizations and representatives from the faith community includes local and national partners working together to align efforts to improve the health of all metropolitan Kansas City residents across six counties in Missouri and Kansas. KC Healthy Kids is a member of the coalition's executive committee.
