We are excited to announce our new collaborative and comprehensive project, Healthy Kids Bright Futures.

The project works with non-Early Head Start centers in specific neighborhoods in Kansas City, KS, and Kansas City, MO. The project lifts up families with children ages zero to three to build a strong foundation for children’s academic success. It connects families to coordinated services while engaging them in building leadership in Healthy Kids Bright Futures and in their communities.

Our goal for the first year is to recruit six early care and education centers as partners. Two in Kansas City, Kansas are already on board: Delight Ahead Child and Family Development Center and Kiddie Kollege. We’ve invited centers and stakeholders within Kansas City Public Schools and Hickman Mills C-1 School District to participate. Additional centers will be added in subsequent years.

Project Director Rhonda Erpelding provides leadership and fosters partnerships to strengthen early education, health and food systems. KC Healthy Kids convenes a number of partners including:

  • Connections – Project Eagle
  • Melinda K. Lewis, Consultant
  • Mother & Child Health Coalition
  • Weighing In, A Program of Children’s Mercy Hospital
  • Mid-America Regional Council
  • The Family Conservancy
  • The Guardian Group
  • University of Kansas Medical Center

Seed funding for Healthy Kids Bright Futures was provided by W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Additional funding provided by Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City and Wyandotte Health Foundation.
