A new case study from KC Healthy Kids and Public Health Law Center outlines how incubator kitchens can help entrepreneurs grow their food-based businesses.
Located at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, just off K-10 in Lawrence, Kansas, Culinary Commons is a county-owned community incubator kitchen that provides almost 700 square feet of commercial kitchen space and equipment at an affordable rate. The case study details significant policy changes that allowed users more opportunities to use the facility to launch their businesses and align the facility’s usage with fairgrounds policy.
The publication is the most recent in a collection of policy guides we’ve developed with Public Health Law Center to help Kansas communities support thriving farms and food businesses and access to fresh healthy food:
- Local Policy Options: Overcoming Barriers to Season Extension not only digs into zoning and building codes, it offers tips for fostering changes in policies and establishing funding streams.
- A Guide to Operating Farmers Markets in Kansas, a five part series outlining policies that help communities support the growth and vitality of farmers markets throughout Kansas.
