Champions for Health provides simple standard aligned lesson plans and student materials designed for teachers of any subject. In these interactive lessons, upper elementary and middle school students serve as leaders to advocate for healthy eating and active living in their school or community. The lessons are quick, to accommodate tight schedules and keep kids moving the entire time!
In Champions for Health students explore three progressive stages:
1) Healthy Habits
2) Healthy Communities
3) Speaking Out for Healthy Kids
All activities are aligned with both Missouri and Kansas learning standards as well as the National Health learning standards and Presidential Youth Fitness standards.
The activities culminate in creating a submission to the annual photo contest where classrooms can win up to $2,500 for a health and wellness project! The Photo Contest Awards take place during KC Healthy Kids’ Champions for Health youth summit. At this all-day conference, students who participate in the contest learn to speak out for healthier food in schools, walkable communities, urban farms and gardens and more.
