Want to empower kids to speak out for healthy communities? KC Healthy Kids is seeking retired public school educators in Missouri and Kansas to serve as volunteer teachers for the 2016 I Am Here photo contest.

Your could help a school win $2500! That’s how much we’re giving away in this photo contest that teaches students to speak out for healthy communities!

The I Am Here photo contest is open to third- through eighth-grade classrooms. The students work together with their classmates to submit up to 5 pairs of captioned photos illustrating two themes: “How My Environment Helps Me Be Healthy,” and “How My Environment Does Not Help Me Be Healthy.”

Time commitment: Training in August 2016 (2 hours), plus 5 classroom visits (Approximately 2 hours of time per school commitment) between October and November 2016. Total: 12 hours

Volunteers will coordinate with area classroom teachers and serve as a guest educator to help classrooms organize photo contest submissions. They will spend approximately 1 hour per school visit helping students brainstorm photo ideas, take photos and record student captions. Volunteers will then submit the photos online on behalf of classroom teacher and students. With travel and time spent uploading submissions online on behalf of classroom teachers, volunteers will spend approximately 2 hours of their time per school visit.

Requirements: Volunteers will need to be able to attend a training session on Thursday August 4th from 9:30 AM-11:30 AM at KC Healthy Kids, 650 Minnesota Ave, Kansas City, KS 66101.
