How many times can our school enter?
Since the challenge is for classrooms rather than schools, teachers can enter for all of their eligible classrooms. Example: A P.E. teacher works with every 3rd-6th grade class at a school that has three classrooms for each grade. The teacher can send in 9 submissions, one for each classroom. If you are planning to enter for multiple classrooms, make sure you cover a range of subjects across all the entries rather than submitting multiples of the same projects.
Are home schools eligible?
We’re sorry, but not at this time. Only grades 3-8 in incorporated schools can participate.
Are summer programs eligible?
Summer programs must be incorporated at a school in the eligible counties (Cass, Clay, Jackson and Platte in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte in Kansas).
Do the projects need to be submitted by a classroom teacher?
Any teacher or staff member at the school can submit a project on behalf of their students. If the classroom is made up of students of different grade levels, please mark your entry according to the highest grade level represented in the classroom.
Can I send our submission by email rather than through your website?
Yes, as long as the files are in a universal format that we’ll be able to open, save, etc. Emailed entries are due by 11:59:59 pm on contest deadline.
How are submissions judged?
Each classroom submission will be scored in three categories:
- Innovation: To earn high marks in the Innovation category, classrooms demonstrate a compelling need for their innovative concept and explain their idea clearly and concisely.
- Impact: To earn high marks in the Impact category, classrooms explain the expected impact for their idea, and how their idea will sustain over time.
- Implementation: To earn high marks in the Implementation category, classrooms demonstrate that they can successfully implement their idea by providing a feasible timeline, potential challenges and solutions, explanation of who is working on the project (team members and/or mentors) and an appropriate budget.
I love this idea but I’m swamped. What should I do?
This is an excellent opportunity to engage a parent volunteer (or two!). Ask them to make the submission on your behalf. They would complete the submission forms and organize the photos and send the final documents to us. That leaves you to do what you do best – teach your students!
