Breakout Sessions
All About that Breath
Take a deep breath, feel your chest expand – now exhale! That’s your body’s respiratory system in action! In this session kids will learn about the respiratory system featuring our amazing lungs. We’ll explore the anatomy of lungs, their function and some dos and don’ts to keep your lungs healthy. Kids will learn to focus on their breathing and find out how it feels to have difficulty breathing when lungs become ill or damaged. Presented by American Lung Association.
Inner Knowledge is Power
Inner knowledge, or mindfulness, is a powerful tool that helps students enhance their physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being. In this session, students will practice a series of yoga and mindfulness exercises. Presented by the Inner Knowledge program.
Food Safety Fun
Do you know how to keep your food safe as it goes from the farm to your plate? Join KC Healthy Kids’ Farm to School Academy in practicing food safety through a special Glo-Germ activity! Kids will also learn how to wash different types of local produce.
Principal for a Day? Move Your Way!
Join us for this interactive session where you get to be principal for a day! It will be your job to decide how to get students moving more throughout the day. What would you and your friends like to do to be active at school? How could it work in the school day? Brainstorm your ideas for how you would create times, places and fun ways of being physically active during the school day. Presented by Children’s Mercy.
Pitch Contest
Who will take home the grand prize? Honorable mention classrooms will help make the call! They’ll serve as judges for grade level winners giving short “Shark Tank”-style pitches describing what they would do if they won the $2,500 grand prize.
