Find your Representative Update 03/16/2017, 9:28 pm Good news! Our bill passed the Senate just now, 33 to 7. There was some very interesting debate and some points we need to clarify, but this is a great step in the right direction! – Ashley Today, the Senate debates Substitute for Senate Bill 95, related to food assistance. The bill now includes only the voice/telephonic signatures portion. While the bill has been pared down, it still makes incredibly meaningful changes that will improve access to food assistance in Kansas and has bipartisan support, as well as approval from the Department of Children and Families.

Email Your Senator Here are the details about the voice/telephonic signature provision: Acceptance of voice/telephonic signatures Currently, community partners such as Harvesters assist individuals wanting to apply for SNAP over the phone using the online application portal. Community partners who are assisting individuals in remote rural areas or elderly or homebound individuals who are not able to physically visit community partner, such as Harvesters, site must fill out a paper application by hand. The community partner, using their own funds, must then mail it to the applicant to sign and attach the necessary documentation. This process is extremely time consuming, and adds critical wait time before individuals receive food. Substitute for SB95 would provide the ability to submit telephonic voice signatures, which would significantly improve the Food Assistance application process for applicants and for the Department of Children and Families. The bill passed unanimously out of the Senate Public Health Committee and has the approval of DCF. As always, THANK YOU for all that you do!
