As 2019 comes to a close, we want to say thank you for giving your time, lending your voice and donating to KC Healthy Kids. Your investment makes a lasting difference in the lives of children and families across the bi-state region.

Here are just a few things we accomplished this year with your help:

• Students in four chapters of Boys and Girls Club (Wyandotte, Olathe, Hawthorn and Independence) became Champions for Health when they learned healthy habits, pedestrian safety, and what to look for in a healthy community. They also used The Walking Detective workbook to score their neighborhoods for walkability and sent their findings to their mayors—a total of 60 letters.​
• This summer, Splitlog Farm & Orchard produced 1000 pounds of fresh, locally grown produce for families and three schools in KCK Public Schools. M.E. Pearson, Whittier and Stony Point North served cherry tomatoes, regular tomatoes and leafy greens to about 1500 students.
• With our partners in the KC Voices collaborative, we commissioned 5 local artists to create original works that lift up the voices of residents in low-income, racially diverse neighborhoods in bi-state Kansas City. The collection illustrates stories about how food policies such as the Farm Bill and Child Nutrition Act shape our communities, our opportunities and our plates. Works created earlier this year were part of a traveling exhibit that was shown in community spaces and legislators offices.
• KCK Public School District and Gardner-Edgerton School District enrolled in Farm to School Academy in July and began planning their first steps toward purchasing more locally grown food. Each district will select five schools to provide more in-depth programming that includes farm to school classroom lessons and Tasting Local events.
