Small actions like calling, clicking or attending an event make a big impact on our efforts to see that all people in greater Kansas City will have access to healthy affordable food that nourishes individuals, communities, the local economy and the environment. Here’s what you can do! Today
1. Join the campaign to make it easier to grocery shop by bus. Sign up to help distribute “Fare Food” maps and collect surveys, or to participate in “zero fare” campaign before leaving. You may also contact Andrea Clark at [email protected]. 2. Speak up for a strong Child Nutrition Reauthorization that nourishes opportunities in our communities with programs like WIC, school means, after school and summer food programs. Legislators have begun working on this important legislation. You can:
3. Get involved in the Food Access Working Group and to help organize and/or participate in the Urban Farming Policy Task Force. Stop by the resource table before you leave to sign up, or email Andrea Clark. Soon4. Encourage decision makers to lower the Kansas food sales tax to a level competitive with surrounding states by signing onto this letter. 5. Educate and engage others for a strong Child Nutrition Reauthorization at upcoming events. We’ve got tools and resources to make it easy! Email Andrea Clark. 6. Mark your calendars & spread the word! Next year the first-ever National Food Policy Coalition Conference will be held in KC, November 18-20, 2020. It is being organized by Food Policy Network at the Johns Hopkins Center For a Livable Future. Stay tuned to learn how to get involved! Always7. Respond to & amplify alerts. Action alerts will be coming your way soon on the Child Nutrition Act and more. If you’ve attended our meetings but haven’t received any advocacy alerts check your spam folder and filter settings. Engage your network in advocacy by sharing our alerts and inviting others to subscribe. 8. Network and collaborate with fellow stakeholders by attending quarterly meetings (free and open to the public!) of the work groups and other events. 9. Support local farmers. Buy direct from farmers when possible and support retailers and restaurants who do the same. Local foods sales have a bigger local economic impact than conventional food AND they’re delicious. 10. Help us sustain effective advocacy on critical food policies by making a monthly or annual donation. Coalition membership is free, but the work isn’t! Supporters, Policy Pollinators and sponsors provide crucial support for costs that grants cannot cover, such as lobbying. Donate Today Comments are closed.
